2011 Press Release: NCCI Leveraging Excellence Award Winner Selected

NCCI Recognizes “UC Ready” for Helping Over 60 Institutions Prepare for Disaster

Continuity planning professionals are continually faced with a daunting question: “How will we continue to perform our educational mission in the absence of some of our most crucial resources (e.g., people, space, equipment, IT networks)?” In other words, if the building is in rubble, or half our faculty are home with the flu, how will we teach our courses and do our research?

When leaders at the University of California- Berkeley, sitting on the San Andreas Fault, set about to develop their continuity plans, they realized that they were not the only university that might face debilitating situations. So they built a robust web-based planning tool that can be easily adopted by other
institutions. To date, over 60 institutions have done just that.

In recognition of this achievement, Paul Dimond, manager of UC-Berkeley’s Office of Continuity Planning, will receive the 2011 Leveraging Excellence Award and present their model on July 8-9 at NCCI’s 12th Annual Conference in Tampa, Florida. The award is sponsored by the Follett Higher
Education Group.   (read more)
