Upcoming Power60

Charting Your True North (The Goal) When Navigating Change
Presenter: Rhasheema Sanders, California State University
Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 1-2 p.m. Eastern (10-11 a.m. Pacific)

Using your internal compass, you can have a vision for change – you have an idea where you want to set sail and better yet, you have a clear view of where you may want to drop anchor. Begin with the end in mind. This session is about exploring your own area of influence to make change happen, what you need to do and who you will need to get on board to make that voyage that you envisioned really happen.

Member Spotlight

Sarah L. Collie
Associate Vice President for Organizational Excellence
University of Virginia

NCCI Board Member from 2005 – 2011

What have you gained as a result of being a member of NCCI? What has your institution gained?

At an individual level, NCCI has had a profound, positive impact on my professional growth and development – not just the formal programming but the informal network of professionals who I have regular contact with throughout the year.  More broadly, UVA has reaped numerous benefits as a result of our NCCI engagement.  NCCI has provided access to new ideas and approaches from other institutions; thought partners and mentors; and an opportunity for organizational learning as we consider what we might adapt and adopt from others. Further, we have invited several NCCI members to UVA to provide consulting, conduct workshops and training, and deliver keynotes.

Most memorable aspect of your NCCI connection?

There truly is not just one, but the connections that I made at that first conference have proven invaluable and long-standing. NCCI has been a key contributor to developing my expertise and helping me maintain relevancy in quality, improvement, change, and innovation.

How would you encourage new members to NCCI to get involved?

I highly encourage participation in the annual conference, which is a signature event.  Webinars and virtual Communities of Practice are terrific learning opportunities all-year-round.  Join a committee and help guide the association while connecting with peers from other institutions. And lastly, leverage the talented network of collaborators, mentors, and coaches. Everyone is so giving of their time and talent if you’ll just “ask.” It is an exceptional, altruistic environment.  NCCI provides an opportunity to enhance individual and institutional capacity and the opportunity to advance higher education. It’s an organization where you can both “give and receive” and therefore, highly rewarding.
